10 Live Observations From EVOLVE 61

4. Marty Scurll Is The Next Big Thing

Over the past year, British independent wrestling has gained a larger following worldwide, with three men in particular making headlines: Zack Sabre Jr., Will Ospreay, and Marty Scurll.

Sabre Jr. and Ospreay are heavily in demand, with Sabre Jr. on his way to the WWE Cruiserweight Classic (and possibly WWE full-time), and Ospreay having just signed a two-year contract with New Japan. Scurll, though, seems to be the odd man out. He's making a splash in the U.S. with EVOLVE, but thus far, none of the major groups have snatched him up.

It can only be a matter of time before Scurll is offered a contract. He's not as technically-adroit as Sabre Jr. or as acrobatic as Ospreay, but he's a fantastic all-rounder and the most charismatic of the three. Admittedly, his size may hold him back, but his personality is enormous.

At EVOLVE 61, the self-proclaimed "Villain" defeated Sabre Jr. in an excellent contest, making him submit to a Crossface Chicken Wing. By virtue of his win, Scurll earned a title shot against Timothy Thatcher at EVOLVE's return to Queens in July.
