10 Live Observations From EVOLVE 61
5. Catch Point Really Is About Competition
The other WWE Cruiserweight Classic qualifying match pitted Catch Point's leader, Drew Gulak, against fellow stable member Tracy Williams. Gulak and Williams also happen to be the EVOLVE Tag Team Champions, and they use a similar style.
That style - hard strikes, powerful suplexes, and expert submissions - led to the best match of the evening. Gulak and Williams took turns dominating each other, with Gulak using a huge powerbomb and then taking a page from Fred Yehi's book with some devastating stomps. Williams soon managed to turn the tide with a DDT on the apron and a brainbuster.
Finally, Tracy Williams resorted to using a Crossface, applying it repeatedly in hopes of making his partner tap out. Gulak consistently managed to escape or get to the ropes, though, then finally surprised Williams by trapping him in the Gu-Lock (a dragon sleeper with a bodyscissors). Williams had nowhere to go and tapped out, ending an encounter that showed how great EVOVLE is, and how important the Cruiserweight Classic will be.
