10 Live Observations From WWE Extreme Rules 2016
6. Welcome To Superstars, Vaudevillains
When The Vaudevillains' main roster debut was announced after WrestleMania, WWE fans were skeptical. Many thought that their gimmick was a better fit for NXT than Raw, and that the pair would find themselves being treated like The Ascension before long. Nevertheless, The Vaudevillains soon won a tournament to become number one contenders to The New Day's WWE Tag Team Titles.
Even so, nobody took them seriously. The Vaudevillains only won the tournament because they were heels and weren't feuding with anyone else, and their win in the finals was particularly inauspicious - Enzo's injury at Payback resulted in The Vaudevillains being announced as the default victors the following evening on Raw.
Their subsequent feud with The New Day exposed to a wide audience that The Vaudevillains just aren't that entertaining, and when the two teams clashed at Extreme Rules, the result wasn't kind to the former NXT Tag Team Champions - The New Day picked up the win in just over six minutes.
I'm not complaining - it would have been horrible if The Vaudevillains unseated The New Day. The challengers' run of luck seems to have hit its definitive end, though, and it's not hard to imagine them fading into the background of the tag team division, just like The Ascension did before them.
