10 Live Observations From WWE Glasgow
WrestleMania Revenge Tour hits The Hydro to a packed house.
As we made our way into the almost sold out SSE Hydro in Glasgow for WWE's WrestleMania Revenge tour, there was a sea of kids dressed in John Cena merchandise. This is standard fare for your WWE house show, but I had expected to see more children dressed like Roman Reigns.
I'd made my peace with the fact that Glasgow had gotten the 'B' show this time around. While Newcastle got Ambrose/HHH, Zayn/Owens and AJ/Y2J, we got Darren Young teaming with Zack Ryder and Roman Reigns against Sheamus.
However, much to our delight, we realised Cesaro, The New Day, Rusev and the three top competitors in the Women's division would be part of the event.
Greg Hamilton came out at the beginning and gave the audience the options to watch highlights from one of the WrestleMania 32 main events. The Glasgow faithful chose Undertaker and Shane McMahon so we watched some of the key moments from the match to get us pumped for a night of WWE Live action.
I must say that before the show I got the chance to interview the lovely Sasha Banks for WhatCulture and that the interview will be available on our YouTube channel later this week! So keep an eye out for that.
Without further delay, here are my ten key observations from WWE Live in Glasgow...
10. Selling WWE Network Subscriptions In The Street
As we approached the venue on Saturday, there were five or six men and women in WWE hoodies with clipboards trying to stop fans on their way into the building. As my friend and I got closer, we were stopped and asked if we'd subscribed to the WWE Network.
We told the lovely young lady that we were long-term subscribers to the Network and she immediately asked us if we shared an account or had individual ones.
I've always thought that there could be other avenues where WWE could pimp out the Network to their fanbase so they might just be onto something here. The employees were giving people all the info on how to sign up for their free month or helping them do it on their mobile devices.
Carrying this out before every event seems like marketing 101 for WWE.
Midway through the show, an ad for Camp WWE (starring Vince McMahon, Roman Reigns, Ric Flair and a ton of others) was aired, too. Seems like a smart move on the company's part to have snippets of shows that fans can watch on the Network as a way to entice them.
Hopefully this will translate into some more subs and we can finally get The Undertaker to agree to go on the Stone Cold Podcast!
