10 Live Observations From WWN Mercury Rising 2016

4. Maxwell Chicago Is Weird

Speaking of out of the loop, it's also been a while since I've checked in with FIP. Years ago, the group was a sister organization to Ring of Honor, and men like Bryan Danielson and CM Punk competed for the company. Today, FIP is part of WWN, and I'm none too familiar with the brand. I got a re-introduction during a four-way match for the FIP Title, featuring champion (and EVOLVE mainstay) Caleb Konley, Gary Jay, Jason Cade, and Maxwell Chicago. The match turned into an exciting contest, and Konley picked up the win to retain his title, but it was Chicago who left the largest impression. Known as the "Lounge-Singing Luchadore", Chicago wore a spandex bodysuit designed to look like a tuxedo and spent the bulk of the match shying away from combat (especially high-risk maneuvers) and taking comical bumps. Still, he got the amused crowd behind him, and while I don't think he'll be signing with NXT anytime soon, he was a fun change of pace - and Mick Foley, who was in the audience, seemed most amused.
