10 Longest Gaps Between World Title Reigns In WWE History
2. Goldberg - 13 years 5 months 13 days
The idea of Goldberg being a world champion is still very triggering to a lot of wrestling fans, so look away now if you don't want to be reminded of it.
In 2003, Goldberg was hot property. Despite some poor booking from WWE, the former WCW star was still very popular and was the smart choice to dethrone Triple H at SummerSlam. Sadly, WWE is allergic to smart choices.
Instead, he lost at SummerSlam only to beat him for the World Heavyweight Championship one month later. By the time the year was out, Goldberg would lose the title to... Triple H. Of course.
Mere months after this title loss, Goldberg was gone, seemingly for good. However, 2K Games are a powerful force and Mr. Jackhammer returned to the promotion in 2016. After his squash over Brock Lesnar proved to be very popular, Goldberg was given a Universal Championship match against Kevin Owens at Fastlane. Goldberg's 13 year title drought ended in 22 seconds when he obliterated Owens with a Spear and a Jackhammer.
Quite appropriate that Goldberg finally got his revenge on Triple H by squashing one of his boys.
