Gerald Brisco was an accomplished wrestler for the better part of sixteen years from the late '60s through to the mid-'80s, tagging with brother Jack to fill his wardrobe chockablock full of belts. Yet it wasn't until 1997 that he gained any particular relevance amongst fans imported to wrestling during either of its two late millennium boom periods, stooging with fellow backstage staffer Pat Patterson as one of Vince McMahon's two lovable lackeys.

Brisco's storied wrestling legacy was absolutely not in evidence when he usurped Crash Holly for his Hardcore title during the 16 May 2000 episode of Raw; rather, he was just another comedy champion for a comedy belt, one holder removed from Cynthia Lynch - aka 'Godfather's Ho'.

And that's the way that legacy ends. Brisco, years since he was last seen on WWE TV, having been beset by a number of health issues, was back and in rude form for Raw's Reunion special. In a loving nod to two of the most underrated yet essential components of Steve Austin's fight with Vince McMahon - and two of the boss' most trusted allies - the stooge pinned his usual partner in crime for the 2019 equivalent of the Hardcore strap. It was the perfect reversal for his defeat to the same man 19 years ago.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
