10 Ludicrous Pro Wrestling Quirks

2. Removing Monitors From The Announce Table

That poor Spanish announce table, it really takes a beating. It seems not a Pay-Per-View can whiz past without some sorry soul being thundered through the commentary booth, and it's become a staple of wrestling television to see someone take an RKO, Pedigree, Rock Bottom or Powerbomb through the poorly-constructed table. Housed underneath the lid of the desk, monitors are there which show the action and theoretically make it easier for the announcers to call. Interestingly, WWE commentators are instructed to spend most of their time glued to the screen, calling what they see there, rather than watching the ring which is directly in front of them. For that reason, they always sell surprise when a wrestler decides he's putting his opponent through the table. That's fine, but it makes for a jarring, awkward visual to see the offender casually take some of the sharper, harder and more dangerous objects out of the desk, such as the monitors, before sending someone crashing through it. It's understandable that WWE would want to protect their performers, but surely this only makes everyone look like a kind, considerate soul, instead of someone locked in a punishing battle.
