10 Mainstream Songs That Made Great Wrestling Entrance Themes
3. Metalingus By Alter Bridge (Edge)
When Edge suffered a serious neck injury in early 2003, he was out of action for over a year. During the rehab period following his surgery, the future Rated R Superstar attended a Metallica concert at which he sparked up a friendship with former Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti.
Tremonti invited Edge back to his place and played him some demos planned for Alter Bridge's upcoming debut album. One of those songs was Metalingus.
Edge loved the track and personally asked if he could use the song for his impending return. With Alter Bridge being a new band on the scene and WWE previously helping Creed by using My Sacrifice in numerous vignettes, Tremonti agreed. Edge had his iconic theme.
Pounding double bass pedals and melodic, wailing vocals all helped sell the change in attitude from jokey baby face to serious main event player. There was an inherit darkness to the song, spliced with a tempo and rhythm track that screamed intensity.
Whilst Metalingus doesn't even break the top five of most commercially successful Alter Bridge songs, it acted as entry point for a huge portion of their fan base, and remains a staple of their live shows.
