10 Major Challenges Facing WWE In 2019

6. The Male Roster's Malaise

WWE Roster Too Many Wrestlers

Wrestling is a star-oriented business, and WWE, on the male side of their roster, don't have any.

Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman, AJ Styles: these guys are great, not none as eye-catching as the stars of old. There's a reason the company keep calling on the likes of Kane, Triple H, and The Undertaker in prominent roles. These days-gone-by headliners still feel like bigger deals than the full-time roster, and that's entirely on the company for destroying credibility through 50/50 booking, hampering the wrestlers' ability to show character via heavy scripting, and a host of other factors

To contrast, their women's division is the best thing going on in American wrestling right now. Ronda Rousey is the promotion's biggest mainstream star, Becky Lynch is their most must-see performer, Charlotte Flair is rejuvenated, and Asuka has finally joined the elite bracket after months of shoddy booking. Each feels like a bigger deal than their male equivalents, and it's time for WWE to start crafting the likes of Rollins and Strowman into the stars they should be.

Relying on 50-year-old part-timers shouldn't be necessary anymore. It is, though, and with 'The Guy' sidelined indefinitely, new protagonists must be sought.
