I’m sure some of you will claim that you knew this already, but the confirmation from Punk as to how WWE matches, and specifically The Royal Rumble, are put together was very interesting.

Punk stated that, and I quote, “writers don’t have a lot of say in what happens in the ring. Writers write storylines. Wrestlers put their matches together.”

Think of all the stick Road Dogg and the gang are getting for how badly put-together most of SmackDown’s top matches are. Think about how much criticism the AJ/Nakaura testicle-warfare angle is getting… maybe the blame’s going to the wrong place.

Conversely, after all the praise that was directed at the bookers for how brilliantly worked the most recent Royal Rumble was, Punk claims that wrestlers are merely told what number people are coming in, and roughly when they want them out. The wrestlers themselves build the Rumble from there.
