10 Major WWE Problems With The Authority

6. Confusing Corporate Kane

Mr. McMahon was an evil authoritative figure; that much was very easy to tell. He was the hated enemy of Steve Austin and the fans, his underlings were evil for siding with him, and anyone who showed even the slightest allegiance to the boss was pretty much guaranteed to be booed, which was the whole purpose of the McMahon character in the first place.

As for the Authority, they’re trying to follow this formula, with one big, red, exception: Kane.

On one hand, Kane gets involved in destroying whoever challenges for Seth Rollins’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and can usually be seen Chokeslamming one of the show’s fan favorites. On the other hand, this heel secondary authority figure books matches that fans want to see, under the guise of those decisions being ‘best for business’. Why would someone aligned with the most evil group in WWE be trying to garner a positive reaction from the audience? This just shows a lack of proper storytelling and consistency.

While it makes sense for WWE to accept the fact that their audience is more amorphous and don’t always cheer and boo those whom WWE’s management want them to, that acceptance should not bleed into the Authority’s characters. If Kane is aligned with the Authority, he should be doing everything that they’d want him to do to keep them in power, which includes booking matches that would put the faces at a disadvantage and get the fans to boo him, which, in turn, would lead to more sympathy for the babyfaces.

The only sensible reason for Kane to be doing what he’s currently doing would be that WWE are trying to separate him from the Authority. That has yet to happen, and for now it seems like Kane is just swimming along aimlessly, unsure if he’s supposed to be loved by the fans or hated.
