10 Major WWE Returns That Flopped

5 & 4. Kevin Nash And Scott Hall

In 2002, Vince McMahon was set to unleash a lethal dose poison upon the WWE. He was going to kill his own creation after he began losing power and full control of the company to Ric Flair. To accomplish his goal, he brought in the help of controversial superstars from his former rival promotion. He signed Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to WWE contracts to reform the New World Order. It seemed like a huge move that would give months of exciting matches and perhaps bring in some lapsed WCW fans. Instead, it was an embarrassment and a failure in almost every conceivable area. The only saving grace of the NWO€™s run in WWE was Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 18. It was an iconic match, but McMahon lacked patience and pulled the plug on Hogan's heel run far too soon. This left The Outsiders on their own. Without Hulk, they just didn't feel that special or dangerous. In WCW, no one could stop the NWO their first few months in the company. In the WWE, the NWO got shown up repeatedly. One of their first nights in, Steve Austin kidnapped Hall and embarrassed him for basically two hours on an episode of SmackDown. Another week saw The Rock easily dispose of Hall in a five minute match. These were the men that brought an entire company to its knees? Besides the poor booking, Hall and Nash were a few years older from their WCW debut, and a step slower in the ring. They also weren't able to be the cool heels that got them over in the first place, as all of their promos were heavily scripted. It was a new environment for the two, and it just wasn€™t working out. Hall then had escalating personal issues that got him fired, and Kevin Nash was injured twice which left the group in shambles. The Outsiders in WWE should have been huge business, instead it was hugely disappointing.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
