The Franchise has regularly shared his passion for the business and the hunger he had to make it to the top. However, a naive Douglas soon discovered that it is impossible to accomplish those dreams purely through wrestling ability alone, and would suffer at the hands of backstage politics. Douglas has regularly accused Ric Flair of being a key reason for his limited achievements within the wrestling industry. On numerous occasions Shane has hinted that Flair used his political power within WCW only for his own benefit and left the young rookie wrestlers to rot further down the card. As a kid, Douglas idolised The Sixty Minute Man, but claims that his admiration soon diminished and Douglas was left loathing the man he once worshiped. Shane said: €œI met Ric Flair as a young guy coming up that ladder with stars in my eyes, he was the greatest wrestler in the history of our business. Then I sat back night after night, week after week, month after month, watching him act like a total jerk, and treat people like a total jerk. It didn't work for me.
