Konnan's star was burnishing in Mexico when the WWF made overtures to him in 1991.

The first ever EMLL heavyweight champion and the company's headline attraction, Konnan was simultaneously starring in a hit Mexican telenovela.

Wrestling for the WWF sporadically under different aliases, while developing a character idea he had seen in a Japanese anime, Konnan controversially left EMLL to found AAA in May of 1992.

The defection to AAA, which took the majority of EMLL's roster with him, sent shockwaves through lucha libre, with Konnan at the forefront of the move.

So, it hardly came as much of a surprise that when he debuted as the confetti shooting cyborg from outer space, the Comet Kid in September 1992, that Konnan might not be able to hold up his end of the bargain.

After but three televised matches, during which the characters name was changed to Max Moon, Konnan abruptly left to return to Mexico, following a dispute with Vince McMahon over missing shows.

Having heavily invested in a $13,000 suit for Max Moon, the WWF handed the gimmick over to the another former masked man, Kato, Paul Diamond.

Diamond had a multi-month run as Max Moon before the WWF admitted defeat and kyboshed the gimmick in 1993.
