10 Massive Exaggerations In WWE

7. Cheers/Boos

Roman Reigns the rock

WWE has often used editing in their video packages to control the narrative and negative receptions crowds direct at some of the Superstars they’re pushing.

A notable example of this in modern years has been Roman Reigns, who’s been let down and suffered from bad dialogue in scripts and questionable angles/booking all the while WWE ramming him down fans’ throats. The announcers at ringside exaggerate and brush off the boos with Reigns simply being a “polarizing figure” – a label first given to John Cena in 2005 when he dealt with much of the same.

WWE muted the crowd largely booing Reigns after he defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 in 2016 and in 2017 on Raw when Reigns lost the United States Championship in a handicap match to Chris Jericho - if you caught the episode live you’d have seen the camera cut to a fan delighted at the outcome, but if you watched it a week later in the edited recap you’d have seen that same fan look devastated in the outcome.

It’s a tactic WWE are still using as of today and will no doubt continue using until the end of time. As recent as Raw in Manchester, England in late 2019 (which was taped) Seth Rollins drew huge heat according to fans in the building when he delivered the “I think I am the best wrestler on the planet” line. But when it aired later that night viewers were treated to huge cheers from the crowd when Rollins uttered that line.
