10 Massive Exaggerations In WWE
3. Revisionist History
WWE have come under criticism from fans regarding their revisionist history of the past. WWE has always had free reign when it comes to editing their past, especially in DVDs and Network specials, such as the ones that detail how D-Generation X overwhelmed the competing New World Order on the other channel or how DX were equal to the nWo/greatest faction in wrestling history at their peak. If you didn’t watch or live through that time and only took to WWE products in learning about that period in wrestling, you’d easily believe DX won the Monday Night Wars for the WWF.
Like in video packages when they detail how Stone Cold Steve Austin cut that unforgettably epic Austin 3:16 promo at King of the Ring in ’96 that then catapulted him up the card to headline status. Though they never mentioned how he was still in the dark match at their second biggest event of the year, SummerSlam, two months later.
Or how they play particular parts of history and not others on the same scale. When WWE tried to name the women’s battle royal ‘The Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal’ in honour of Moolah at WrestleMania 34 it was quickly scrapped due to online backlash over Moolah’s past. But then that same year they awarded the Warrior Award at their Hall of Fame ceremony, named after The Ultimate Warrior (who passed away in 2014) even though he’s on record as saying some truly despicable things in the past regarding Hurricane Katrina victims, homosexuals, and Martin Luther King.
