10 Matches We Must See In Lucha Underground Season 2
3. Fenix Vs. Mil Muertes
If there is one rivalry that truly defines Lucha Underground, it is the beef between current Lucha Underground Champion Mil Muertes and the only man to defeat him so far, Fenix. The two faced off in a casket match in season one, and somehow managed to redefine that entire gimmick. It would be no stretch to say that it was the best casket match in history, and then some. The two came together when Catrina (the valet of Muertes) got involved with Fenix, which led to the young luchador defeating Muertes in the aforementioned casket match. It was as bloody and violent as such matches should be, and led to Muertes disappearing for a few weeks. When he returned he was a different beast altogether, and a much more terrifying one at that. Muertes got his revenge on Fenix in a death match, but the beef between the two is far from over. They are on a collision course once more, and part three in this rivalry can't come soon enough. The story is that Muertes is nigh-on unstoppable, but the one man with the ability to rise above him in victory is Fenix. The only doubt is whether the two will be able to top their two genre-defying battles from season one.
Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
