10 Midcard WWE Stars Who Wrestled One Huge Match

9. The Brian Kendrick (WWE Championship Scramble Match) - Unforgiven 2008

Brian Kendrick made a surprise return to WWE on the February 12th NXT television tapings. His match is expected to air on February 25th on WWE Network, but it is currently unknown whether he has signed a new deal with the company. His previous tenure in WWE was mainly characterised by his long running and successful tag team with Paul London, with their reign as WWE Tag Team Champions lasted 331 days, the longest in history. However, he also had a run in 2008-09 as a singles competitor under the bizarre moniker 'The' Brian Kendrick. He had some success here as an upper midcard heel, with his new attitude (and tough bodyguard Ezekiel Jackson) gaining some traction with the fans. However, it was still a surprise when he was included in the WWE Championship Scramble match at Unforgiven 2008, a new concept with a 20 minute time limit. Superstars were able to temporarily become champion via pinfall or submission and the man who was 'interim' champion whenever the time limit ran out would leave with the title belt. Kendrick actually did become champion for a few short minutes during the Scramble, but didn't emerge victorious overall. Neither did the Scramble match format, as it has only been used once since, and the 'interim' title reign isn't recognized in the official record books. Oh well. Kendrick ended up being released from his contract on July 30th 2009, and went on to wrestle for TNA and New Japan before his recent, and hopefully permanent, return to WWE.
