It’s pretty well-known that Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels did not get along. WWE basically made an entire DVD feature out of how they couldn't stand each other. What started out as a minor rivalry grew into all-out hatred, which eventually contributed to Bret leaving the company altogether. There was a lot of really horrible things said about each other behind the scenes, and even on-air on occasion. One of those moments has become infamous. One night Michaels took things way too far when he implied that his adversary was having an affair with Sunny.

On an episode of Raw in 1997, Hart was in the ring when Michaels interrupted his promo on the Titantron. He oddly said the line “...even though you’ve had some Sunny days my friend…”. He put some extra emphasis on Sunny, and it didn’t really make much sense from a storyline standpoint. It was just a way to get under his real-life rivals skin and it worked. Hart was livid, as he was married and the rumor created trouble at home. He didn't want his wife thinking he was being unfaithful (even though he was, which he readily admitted in his book)!

The ironic thing is that it was Michaels himself who had actually had an affair with Sunny, which reportedly lasted the better part of a year. Hart, on the other hand, apparently did not fool around with her. Sunny refuted those claims years later and said that the rumors started because she let Bret use her dressing room, as he wanted to get away from the rest of the roster during that tumultuous time.

You can believe who you want in that aspect, but Michaels' line remains one of the most personal on-air attacks ever delivered by a wrestler.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
