Owen Hart was NOT a nugget. At least that’s what he proclaimed quite often in the final years of his career. Having him claim that he was not a nugget had a reverse psychology effect on fans, as they joyfully exclaimed that he was indeed a nugget. But where did that phrase come from? And what was it referring to?

Unfortunately for Owen, nugget was was referring to a piece of s**t. D-Generation took to the ring on the 8 Dec. 1997 episode of Raw to play some cards in the middle of the ring, because at that point they didn't seem to give a damn. That night they were gloating about getting rid of the entire Hart Foundation. Survivor Series had gone down the prior month, and along with Bret Hart’s departure, Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart went with him. That left Owen, who Michaels claimed was a nugget that just couldn’t be flushed. He went into pretty graphic detail over the entire detail, which left Jim Ross apologizing multiple times.

Even though Owen was a face at the time, the catchphrase stuck with him until the end of his life. It may be the most degrading, disgusting nickname for a top talent in WWE history. You have to wonder if Michaels would have succeeded at the level he did if his fortune was reversed and somehow ended up with "Nugget" instead of "The Heartbreak Kid."

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
