10 Missed Opportunities In Brock Lesnar’s WWE Career
5. A Feud With Daniel Bryan
The main event of SummerSlam 2014 saw Lesnar destroy John Cena to win the WWE Title in impressive fashion. The original plan for that show was for Lesnar to face WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, but Bryan ended up missing the second half of 2014 due to a serious neck injury. It's a shame because Bryan would have been perfect for Lesnar at that time, with WWE really wanting to put Lesnar over as a beast that was unstoppable just a few months after ending The Undertaker's undefeated streak. No wrestler was loved more than Bryan and nobody was more hated than Lesnar. If Lesnar vs. Bryan had taken place, Bryan likely would have lost in similar fashion to Cena, but the difference is the Lesnar/Bryan match would have told a much different story. It's the ultimate David vs. Goliath match with Lesnar as a dominant beast while Bryan is one of the most successful underdogs in WWE history. They could have had a special match together and the hype would have been palpable. That match is one of the true "dream matches" that WWE has left, so for it not to happen is a damn shame. It could still happen one day although with Bryan still not cleared to return to in-ring action, WWE may be hesitant to put him in a match with Lesnar, who has a reputation for working a very physical style in the ring.
