10 Missed Opportunities In Steve Austin's WWE Career

6. Goldberg

Speaking of Goldberg, a dream match for wrestling fans was to see Da Man go toe-to-toe with the Texas Rattlesnake. Most expected/hoped that it would go down during the WCW Invasion in 2001 but, alas, Goldberg was more than happy to sit on the sidelines and see out his guaranteed Time Warner contract. There were intermittent rumours that Goldberg was about to sign while Austin was still an active wrestler but it never happened. Ironically, Goldberg's first night in the WWE came the night after Austin officially retired from the ring wars, in March 2003. An Austin versus Goldberg match would have been box-office gold, but it didn't happen because the timing didn't add up. Had Austin been healthy and able to continue bumping in 2003, you can bet that there would have been an Austin versus Goldberg clash (messrs Bill and Steve are good friends outside the ring so there would be no political issues). The two did have some interaction while Austin was the co-GM/sheriff of Raw in 2003/4 and Austin even refereed Goldberg's last ever match, giving him a Stone Cold Stunner following his victory over an also departing Brock Lesnar.
