10 Missed Opportunities In Steve Austin's WWE Career

7. Missing Out On Movie Roles

Along with being one tough S.O.B, Steve Austin is also a charismatic one. That much is obvious any time you see Steve Austin cut a promo. Whenever he comes back to the WWE, he usually blows everyone else out of the water with his mic work. As the WWF's biggest star in 1998 and 1999, Austin was sent to do media everywhere. He was a genuine, cross-over star, the first in wrestling since Hulk Hogan. Like Hogan before him, Austin's natural delivery and undeniable screen presence caught the attention of Hollywood casting agents. It was not long before studios began sending WWE scripts for parts Austin could potentially play. One such role was the character of 'Romero' in the sequel Universal Soldier: The Return. WWE, not wanting to share their top moneymaker, turned the offer down (without consulting Austin first). When Austin did find out about it he was livid (understandably so). He was no doubt even more peeved that the role went to top WCW Bill Goldberg, who bore more than a passing resemblance to Stone Cold. Although the movie bombed with both critics and at the box-office, Austin was still itching to try his hand at tinseltown. Nowadays, Austin appears in a lot of films (his first starring vehicle being the WWE Studios-produced The Condemned), churning out a bunch of similar, straight-to-DVD action fare every year, as well as hosting CMT reality series Redneck Island. Still, Austin would have liked to have start his film career earlier, while he was on top of his game in the WWE.
