Vince Russo's time in charge of writing at WCW has become infamous. The period of 1999-2001 was simply a disastrous one for the organisation.

Not all of that can be attributed to Russo, but he was unable to turn things back around and enable the company to compete with his former employer, the WWF.

Experiencing extreme burnout due to the long hours he was putting in, Russo elected to step away from his role as head writer at Titan Towers in late 1999. This proved to be a poor decision, as it angered Vince McMahon and led to a frosty relationship between the pair.

In fairness to Russo, McMahon's notion that he should 'hire a nanny' to look after his young children was cold and callous. However, Russo's mistake was picking the wrong side in the ongoing 'Monday Night Wars'.

WCW was assuredly the wrong team to play for, something Russo found out firsthand.

He did return for a mega-brief period in 2002, but Russo hasn't worked with WWE in a creative capacity since he gave up his post full-time.
