10 MMA Submissions That Are Almost Impossible To Escape From
7. Armbar
It's time for a slight diversion away from trying to butcher a rival's head/neck/face.
Instead, let's look at how to turn their arm into a fallen breadstick.
As you did with the first three manoeuvres, you want to shoot for that rear-naked choke as a plan A.
Most of these moves in this list are seen as back-up plans and alternative options should your plan A fail. Grappling is like a physical game of chess where you're constantly trying to stay one move ahead of your opponent. Therefore, you should always have another choice ready to go should any of your attempts fail.
If your rival again claws your head-pushing arm away, pull that arm out of trouble. This time, however, you're going to shoot that arm under their shoulder and use your choking arm to scoop their head away from your body.
You then want to push yourself out horizontally as you push your opponent away. Then, throw your leg over their head so that your knees can now pinch together. Also, crossing your toes so that the foot closest to their head is underneath and locked down will help defend against any attempted breaks.
After this, scoop your rival's shoulder as close to your, well, your arse as possible with your legs. This will mean that your opponent's arm is nice and high once you lean back, which will give you plenty of room to pull that arm down into until they choose to tap or go home in a sling - or both!
Either way, once your feet are locked in place and your knees are pinching, the person underneath you is going nowhere fast.
