10 Modern WWE Face Turns That Were Poorly Handled

8. Mickie James (2006)

Mickie resonated with fans for a litany of reasons. For one, she's undoubtedly attractive. For another, she's an accomplished wrestler that can carry a match. In addition to those undeniable qualities, her turn as a sociopathic, quasi-lesbian stalker of Trish Stratus put her a cut above any Diva of the time. She was just so much more interesting and complex. The crowd response to her unhinged actions at WrestleMania 22 was something to behold. As for the face turn, there wasn't a particular moment where she 'turned' - it just gradually happened in the fall of 2006 when she feuded with Lita over the Women's Title. Her animated dementia went away, as did any semblance of a character outside of the garden-variety "beautiful, smiling babyface Diva". Fans still cheered for Mickie largely on the merit of the first two qualities mentioned in this entry (and nostalgia toward the third), but it wasn't the same as when she was allowed to actually, you know, show some personality.
