10 MORE Of The Best Nicknames In Modern Wrestling

Welcome to a world of Kings, Generals and... Dormitory Managers?

Drew McIntyre
WWE

Nicknames can be both a blessing and a curse.

Take Becky Lynch as an example. When she started calling herself "The Man", fans latched onto it as the self-appointed epithet, fully encapsulated the Irish superstar's surging self-confidence and irresistible swagger. As a result, "The Man" became one of the most iconic nicknames in wrestling, and its owner one of its biggest stars.

On the flip side, Becky's previous nickname of "Becky Balboa" flopped harder than her first Smackdown title reign, as it smacked of someone trying too hard to get the audience onside. Saying "I'm like that thing you like!" will never not come across as desperate.

What a wrestler calls themselves affects how the audience reacts to them, so it's fortunate for each entrant on this list that they managed to get it right. Whether their chosen moniker is designed to elicit cheers or boos, each wrestler here chose the perfect descriptor for their current character.

10. The Patriarch - Christian Cage

Drew McIntyre
AEW

Is there a better heel in the business than Christian Cage? The answer is as obvious as the yellow he threatened to slap off Tony Schiavone's teeth.

At 50 years of age, Christian is putting in career-defining work as the wrestling industry's biggest scumbag. Smug, condescending and cowardly, Christian recently added "sexist" to his list of pejoratives by declaring himself "The Patriarch".

As the millions who saw Barbie can attest to, patriarchy isn't exactly a concept designed to win hearts and minds. (And those hearts and minds it does win aren't ones you'd want hanging around your loved ones). By giving himself such a blatantly misogynistic appellation, Christian is leaning deep into the scuzzy side of the Force and reaping the benefits in terms of fan vitriol.

Or, to put it more simply: How would you feel if some creep shacked up with your mother and starting calling himself your new patriarch? That's how Christian makes AEW viewers feel every time he's on screen, and that's why he's the best heel in the business.
