Edge made his WWE debut in June 1998, styled as a mysterious - and indeed, edgy - loner who came to the ring in a dark jacket and sunglasses, and spoke barely a word.
Edge himself has since admitted that the gimmick was influenced by the classic Wesley Snipes vampire movie Blade, which came out later that summer and was in full marketing blitz mode by the time the superstar debuted.
Within a few months, Edge began feuding with Gangrel, cementing the influence, something WWE continued to lean into when they teamed the pair along with Edge's kayfabe brother Christian, forming The Brood.
Though Adam Copeland himself naturally only bears a certain physical resemblance to Wesley Snipes, WWE took full advantage of a popular trend, even if the Rated-R Superstar was ultimately destined for greater things.
