10 Most Ambitious Wrestling Matches Of All Time
4. The Kennel From Hell Match - WWF Unforgiven 1999
Ambitious—or wretchedly, absolutely stupid?
What wins out: Vince Russo’s very casual, unthinking pitch, in which he placed two performers in harm’s way, or his creative commitment to a midcard roster treated with more conviction and care than many of WWE’s top stars today?
F*cking hell, was this overkill.
Bro, what’s better than a cage? Two cages, bro. Swerve, bro, one of the cages is the Cell, bro. SWERVE, BRO, there are freakin’ Rottweiler dawgs between the cages, swear to God.
Now, a Rottweiler is an inherently aggressive breed, and dogs are naturally spooked by certain stimuli—all of which appeared in an Attitude Era arena. The loud noises of the blaring rock anthems, the louder noises of the pyro, a lot of braying people…all of this may have sent those hounds apesh*t, but mercifully, those dogs, much like the critics, crapped all over the first and only Kennel From Hell match. Perhaps they too were bored rigid by the climbing, the constant climbing, involved in a match that required Al Snow and the Big Boss Man to climb two cages.
A totally lame e-Fed pitch somehow writ large by the biggest wrestling company at its height of popularity, this, quite literally, stunk of sh*t.
