10 Most Baffling WWE Signings Ever

2. Mike Adamle

Mick Foley once said that he found it incredibly hard to concentrate on doing his job as a WWE announcer, because Vince McMahon continually shouted down the headset, barking instructions and saying some pretty unflattering things about Foley's work. For the most part, even though he only worked as a commentator for a brief period, Foley was pretty good at it, so it's horrendous to imagine what McMahon must have said to Mike Adamle. Hired in 2008 and regarded as a big deal by WWE, Adamle was reportedly regarded as the kind of guy who could eventually replace longtime legend, Jim Ross, becoming the top announcer in the entire company. Needless to say, that didn't really go as planned, because Mike Adamle knew next-to-nothing about professional wrestling, and possessed very little knowledge of the WWE product in general. Initially a backstage announcer, he transitioned to doing play-by-play on the often-unremarkable ECW show. WWE had grand plans for the man, even briefly making him the GM of Monday Night Raw, but he failed to grasp even the most rudimentary concepts associated with the brand, and didn't even see out the year. Botching pretty much everything, this was a definite case of WWE thinking they could do whatever they liked, ignoring the talent of guys like Jim Ross.
