By the time WrestleMania XXIV rolled around, Money in the Bank had quickly become an eagerly awaited tradition on the ‘Mania card. This year, the dynamic field, which combined emerging talent with experienced MITB veterans, made for an exciting multi-man encounter allowing for fresh spots.

Any list chronicling the history of these monumental matches will heavily rely on Shelton Benjamin, as The Gold Standard could lay claim to a place on the Money in the Bank Mt. Rushmore. Despite holding no victories in his five appearances, he has amassed a tremendous collection of memorable moments thanks to his incredibly innovative offense.

However, at WrestleMania XXIV, he fell victim to a false sense of security and soon met an unfortunate demise.

Turning a blind eye to his rivals when atop a ladder, Benjamin had his ladder tipped by Mr Kennedy and Carlito. Alluring hope of coming away with the win soon faded, as they sent him plummeting 20ft through another ladder set up between the barricade and ring apron, splitting it in two.

The expression on Carlito’s face upon the crash mirrored that of everyone in attendance and watching at home. It was an intensely squeamish bump, resulting in more MITB disappointment for Shelton, but assured he’d once again claim a classic WrestleMania moment.
