10 Most Chilling Wrestling Gimmicks Ever

1. Doink The Clown

Curse the WWF creative team for trying to turn Doink The Clown into a happy, smiling babyface. That was never the way Doink was supposed to be, at least not when Matt Borne went under the greasepaint and green wig. During Borne's time as the clown, Doink was a demented jester with a smile so sinister it could make your blood curl.

Debuting in 1992, the mischievous, downright evil prankster had a sad aura hidden beneath the striking circus colours. Much like Papa Shango, Doink was a much better in-ring worker than he was given credit for in the WWF, but it seems Vince McMahon was much more interested in turning his resident clown into a fan favourite than pursuing Borne's twisted vision.

An awful lot of people have an irrational fear of clowns. Matt Borne's portrayal of Doink made that easy to understand, most notably when he was giggling away like a man possessed or playing tricks on unassuming audience members.

When Doink turned babyface, crowds chanted "Kill The Clown". Upon Doink's debut, there were likely some wishing the same fate, albeit for very different reasons.
