10 Most Confusing WWE Castoffs That TNA Signed
2. David Flair
Did TNA hire David Flair in the hopes that his dad would someday join him? Did David have some dirt on the Jarrett’s? I have no idea, but I just can’t think of any logical explanation!
TNA brought in a lot of random former WCW cast-offs during their early years like Disco Inferno and Brian Christopher. While they may not have made fans incredibly excited over their inclusion, they were at least over for a bit on a main stage, so they added some name value.
However, it must be said that David Flair was never over, and he was never even half-way decent in the ring. He’s most famous for being the son of a legend. He would have never been in the business at all if Eric Bischoff hadn’t given the untrained wrestler a big money contract for no good reason.
After the WCW buyout, WWE gave him a shot in developmental likely as a favor to Ric, who was an employee of theirs at the time. David ended up with one squash match on TV to The Undertaker to his name, and then was let go.
Their loss was also TNA’s loss as they picked him up as a regular roster member. If one person outside of the Flair family ordered a TNA pay-per-view because of David, that would be one more than I would have guessed. By all accounts he’s a really nice guy, but wrestling was just not his thing, and that face seemed pretty obvious to everyone but those who owned a wrestling promotion.
