10 Most Confusing WWE Castoffs That TNA Signed

9. Dustin Runnels

Goldust has been a pretty great character for WWE. He did well as a creepy act early in his run, and successfully transformed over to a comedy role-player in his later years. However, Dustin Runnels had a lot of personal demons that cost him his job multiple times in the company.

Jeff Jarrett gave him a shot in TNA's early days, but just like he showed in WCW, Runnels can’t seem to quite catch on without the Goldust act. Since WWE owns that character, TNA just made their own version called Black Reign, and it was pretty damn embarrassing.

It makes no sense why TNA brought him in for this round. WWE let the man go because of his drug and alcohol abuse problems, and yet Dixie Carter and her team happily overlooked his glaring problems. Dustin had also ballooned in weight and his in-ring work began slipping badly. It just made the company look incredibly bush league by bringing in a veteran on the tail side of his career doing a poor imitation of his old character while obviously on something.

Luckily Goldust has turned it around these days, but it was an amazingly inept and careless decision of TNA to hire him with the shape he was in.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
