In 2013, the wrestling industry lost one of its finest managers when William "Paul Bearer" Moody passed away at the age of 58.

It did not take WWE long to exploit his death for the sake of a storyline.

With WrestleMania 29 on the horizon, and a main event-level match between Undertaker and CM Punk lacking the personal edge one would expect from a marquee bout, the decision was made for Punk to mock the passing of the future Hall of Famer.

Paul Heyman even donned a wig and fake moustache in an attempt to play mind games with The Phenom. Then, in the ultimate act of disrespect, and an angle designed specifically to drum up controversy, Punk emptied Bearer's "ashes" onto Undertaker.

It was an unnecessary way to build a match of that magnitude, a desperation move by WWE Creative to put heat on a program that failed to generate the anticipation that management had hoped for.

The match delivered, essentially erasing from the minds of fans the lacklustre and offensive build that went into it, but the troublesome exploitation of Moody's death, and the pain it caused in his family, remains one of the most controversial stories of the PG Era.
