10 Most Controversial Wrestlers Of 2017

6. Brock Lesnar

For:

For just three nights this year - great, selfless TV segment work all too often didn't matter in retrospect - Lesnar improved on his dire 2016 form, living up to his billed status as the most dangerous-feeling sports entertainer perhaps ever. Survivor Series match opposite AJ Styles in particular transcended the odd, deflating mistimed sequences to create an incredibly dramatic whole. Selling remained sensational. Blinding at simulating a fight, shattering the WWE sheen in the process.

Against:

Selectively motivated despite selection as the biggest, most expensive attraction WWE has to offer in the post-Streak era - maddening, really, given what he is evidently capable of. Only the absolutely elite or most protected performers escape with credibility intact. He doesn't necessarily bury talents, but really, neither Samoa Joe nor Braun Strowman benefitted, either, from their association with him. Similarly, only the absolutely elite can yield drama from the overplayed trap that is Suplex City.

Author Verdict:

It's beginning to appear like we've already seen the best of the Beast, undeniably, consistently and literally awesome between 2014-15. Disproportionately favourable booking has a contagion effect on virtually every other performer on RAW. Not really worth the investment.
