10 Most Controversial Wrestling People Of 2018
6. Brock Lesnar
For the umpteenth year in a row, Brock Lesnar once more marked himself out as one of the most divisive - and smartest - men in the business.
Lesnar had been harder to pin down than Osama bin Laden throughout his Universal Championship reign, but come WrestleMania, it finally seemed like his own Operation Neptune Spear was imminent.
Except on this occasion, the presumed outcome - a Roman Reigns coronation four years in the making - would only be made worse by a John Cena endorsement. Lesnar had erased the pall of his WrestleMania XX debacle with his Goldberg re-run the year prior, but the New Orleans' show-closer became a spiritual sequel. Lesnar was walking following the contest, and fans knew the result was a foregone conclusion. Or so they thought.
Sabotaging the match with sustained indifference only spited themselves. To the surprise of everybody, Brock won; he'd pulled the Beast's greatest trick, convincing everybody that he soon wouldn't exist.
Lesnar's contract status remained the source of mystery. It was expected he'd leave the company at any given moment, with Roman Reigns just itching to step into his sizeable shoes. When he joined the USADA testing pool ahead of a rumoured UFC return, uncertainty intensified. Brock was playing his paymasters like a piano.
Things finally came to a close at SummerSlam, when after nearly half a decade of trying Roman Reigns was able to spawnily best Lesnar for the 'coveted' red strap. Except it wasn't the end. In October, Reigns was tragically forced to vacate the belt after a recurrence of leukaemia. Who should step in as he replacement?
Who else.
