10 Most Controversial WWE Royal Rumble Moments Ever
2. Mae Young Exposes Her Breasts - 2000
You may think a storyline involving an old man dying of an erection-related mishap might be the bottom of the barrel for womens wrestling at the Royal Rumble...but youd be wrong. I use the term 'wrestling' very loosely here, as this entry does not concern an actual match but rather the Miss Rumble 2000 Swimsuit Contest. The competition was judged by the likes of Sgt Slaughter, 'Classy' Freddie Blassie and a host of other guests in one of the least classy WWE segments ever. Ivory, Terri, Jacqueline, Barbara Bush, Luna Vachon and The Kat took turns parading around in skimping bikinis while Jerry The King Lawler got all overexcited, like everyones least favourite pervy uncle. The Kat, who was actually in a relationship with Lawler at the time and probably had to endure his cries of puppies every day and night, God bless her, was the Women's Champion at this point. Despite not being a trained wrestler, she won the title a month earlier in an evening gown pool match and had developed a tendency to push limits as much as she could by flashing her boobs at any given opportunity. After showing off her bubble wrap bikini, a surprise entrant entered themselves into the competition... That extra entrant was Mae Young, who happened to be 76 at the time. As if that wasnt enough, she followed in The Kats footsteps and exposed her breasts on live TV. Luckily, her modesty was saved by the soon to be father of the hand in slime she gave birth to, 'Sexual Chocolate' Mark Henry. But hey, at least she went onto win the competition! (also, Mae's slobber knockers weren't actually real, but rather prosthetics cooked up by WWE's makeup men). The sort of angle that would make anyone feel ill, WWE themselves were left feeling rather uneasy after the stunt outraged Channel 4 so much that they pulled support from the company and refused to broadcast any more WWE PPVs in the UK once their contract at the time expired. Yup, WWE's fake boobs contributed to WWE losing a major television contract. Controversial stuff, to say the least.
