10 Most CRINGE Things Wrestling Fans Always Say
5. "Wrestler X Doesn't Move The Needle"
When Glenn Gilberti, a.k.a. WCW's Disco Inferno, claimed that Kenny Omega or the Young Bucks "Don't move the needle at all" (i.e. improve ratings), we rolled our eyes back so hard we could actually see our inner demons poking their pitchforks into our brain.
So we never have to repeat that experience, allow us to make one thing clear:
WRESTLERS DON'T MOVE THE NEEDLE. WRITING DOES.
Take a look at the picture of the man adorning this entry. Diesel was an infamous flop as WWE champion because Vince McMahon sanded away everything that had got him over in the first place. After he left and joined WCW, that company's creative team wrote to his strengths as a member of the nWo, and in doing so transformed WCW into the no.1 wrestling company in the United States for 18 months.
For a more modern example, look at the Bloodline. They consistently draw the best ratings because they are working the best long-term storyline wrestling fans have seen in years. Everyone involved has always been extremely talented, but they needed this story to propel them to the God-tier level they are currently operating at.
Blaming a wrestler for bad ratings is like blaming a waiter for a restaurant's awful food - it doesn't matter how talented the person delivering the s**t is, it's still going to stink up the joint when it arrives.
