Bayley dreamed of being a professional wrestler. Letters and poems, photo albums and journal entries, were documented in the WWE Network original series Breaking Ground.

Her journey to sports-entertainment greatness was one of the central stories of that program, providing fans an emotional look at one of the industry's most beloved competitors.

It should be of no great surprise to anyone that her victory over Sasha Banks for the NXT Women's Championship in August 2015, at TakeOver: Brooklyn, would rank among the most crowd-pleasing victories in WWE history.

With her opponent taking up residence on the main roster, and her family seated at ringside, there was a sense that Bayley was going to leave Barclays Center with the top prize in women's wrestling. The expected result had an unexpected result.

For one night, fans sat with lumps in their throats, even the toughest of men tearing up at the idea that the lifelong friend had accomplished her dream in front of a record NXT crowd.

When Bayley delivered the inverted headscissors off the top rope and flattened Banks with the Bayley-to-Belly finisher, fans erupted and celebrated with the new champion.

She was one of them, a fan lucky enough to accomplish her dreams inside the ring. In an industry often plagued with criticism and keyboard warriors, the wrestling world stopped and paid its respects to a performer rare enough to bring everyone together.
