10 Most Damaging WWE Defeats

8. Triple H Over Carlito

Few feuds exemplify the problem with putting Triple H in the ring with young, up-and-coming WWE talent than The Game's 2007 battle with Carlito, a precocious second-generation wrestler who was - until that point - widely-regarded as one of the company's big stars of tomorrow.

Clearly, HHH - back in the ring after an eight-month absence - was the more established of the two here, and as such, no-one could really have complained if he had won a straight singles bout - provided that his opponent came out of it with at least a smidgen of credit.

But that wasn't what happened at all. Scoring a clean win wasn't enough; instead, he scored a clean win in a match in which No Disqualification rules applied only to Carlito. The King of Kings had all the odds stacked against him, yet managed somehow to wrestle victory from the jaws of defeat.

Losing under these sort of circumstances is often terminal for young wrestlers. It represents a huge setback in their careers, and one which WWE usually makes no concerted effort to overturn in the months that follow. Before long, they find themselves thrown on the scrapheap altogether, with no hope of a revival.

Anyway, hopefully everything works out fine for Finn Balor.
