10 Most Dangerous WWE Matches Ever
When WWE took it too far...
Because WWE matches involve musclebound wrestlers wailing on each other with fists, steel chairs, and the occasional sledgehammer, all sorts of precautions are taken to minimise injuries (and lawsuits). Being hurled through a table or a glass window may look agonising, but these guys are pros, so they know how to roll with the punch.
But at the end of the day, wrestling is a combat sport. No matter how careful they are, the danger is always there.
Over the years, WWE fans have seen these sports entertainers get their bones shattered, discs ruptured, and their bodies broken. And when ladders, barbed wire, and baseball bats are thrown into the equation, it's surprising these fighters don't get hurt more often. Even if a brawl is devoid of gimmicks and weapons, a single botched move or mistimed fall can put an athlete's body or life in serious jeopardy.
Although all wrestlers get banged up a little (or a lot), it's a bona fide miracle nobody was killed in the fights on this list.
Here are the ten most dangerous WWE matches of all time...
10. Mankind Vs The Rock - Royal Rumble (1999)
Although Mankind has been in dozens of brutal brawls, his scrap with The Rock during 1999's Royal Rumble is among the most shocking.
According to the rules, the match could only come to an end if one participant said the words "I quit." Since Mankind had never submitted in WWE at the time, everyone knew he was going to endure a merciless level of punishment.
After being hit with a bell, a ladder, and a botched Rock Bottom on the table, it looked like it was all too much for the Hardcore King. And when Mankind was tossed onto the electrical circuit board, many assumed he couldn't be put through anymore.
But The Rock wasn't finished. After handcuffing Mankind, the People's Champ pulled out a chair and walloped his opponent across the head. Even though Mankind was meant to receive five unprotected chair shots, The Brahma Bull battered his skull 11 times. (What made this moment more nauseating was the fact Mankind's wife and kids were in the crowd).
It was a bummer to see Mankind lose via pre-recorded shenanigans, but also a relief, since nobody wanted to see his suffering prolonged any further.
