At SummerSlam 1997, Owen Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin took part in an Intercontinental match, where Austin would have to kiss Owen's rear end if he lost. On paper, it was a straightforward set-up (at least by WWE standards). However, an error of judgement during this bout nearly cost Austin his career.

Prior to the match, Austin suggested Owen should perform a knee-drop Tombstone as a false-finish. Owen misunderstood, emphasising he'd pull off the move by "dropping to my ass." Austin made his concerns known, but assumed Owen knew what he was doing.

But when the moment came during the match, Owen executed a butt-dropping piledriver, giving Stone Cold no room to protect his head. Though Austin was meant to win, the botch broke his neck, leaving him momentarily paralysed.

Immediately after, Owen started bragging to the crowd while facing away from Austin, giving him time to recuperate. Austin could barely move, but managed to crawl into position and pin Owen. The pin is regarded as the worst roll-up in WWE history, but the fact Austin could perform the manoeuvre at all is incredible, considering his neck was hanging by a thread.

This entry proves that even a singles match contested by two of the most technically sound wrestlers ever is inherently dangerous.
