10 Most Death-Defying Matches In Wrestling History
3. The Dudley Boyz Vs. The Hardy Boyz Vs. Edge & Christian (TLC Match, WWE WrestleMania 17)
Tables, Ladders, and Chairs is one of the most exciting match gimmicks WWE have ever devised. The stipulation has produced a number of classic matches over the years, and while the PG Era’s TLC matches are usually watered down, the originals were among the most dangerous fights in company history.
TLC took place at WrestleMania 17, and pitted the WWE tag team division’s six crown jewels against one another. Tag wrestling had never been so prominent, and as the Hardyz, Dudleyz, and Edge & Christian went to war, they became legends.
This wasn’t just the most exciting TLC match, but the most dangerous. Frankly, it’s miraculous that none of these men (or Rhyno and Lita, who interfered) walked-out without serious injury. This match left ringside looking like a bomb had gone-off in a DIY store, and the performers showed no fear in jumping through tables, diving from 20-foot ladders, and Spearing each other mid-air.
TLC 2 is the ultimate spotfest, but incredibly reckless. Never before had tag wrestling been so perilous, and after matches like this, it’s no wonder that Edge & Christian were both forced into early retirements. Nonetheless, these three teams thrived on the edge of control, and it speaks volumes of their skill as competitors that they were able to avoid disaster.
