10 Most Divisive WWE Match Outcomes Ever

8. John Cena Vs. Brock Lesnar - SummerSlam 2014

Brock Lesnar was drafted back into WWE to legitimise it, and although that lofty ambition was never going to work - at least not when his first opponent would go onto face jump-suited comedy authority figure John Laurinaitis the very next month - the booking of Lesnar has, at the very least, ignited the imagination of the wrestling world.

SummerSlam 2014 was the night on which architect Brock Lesnar finalised the blueprints and erected Suplex City, drilling John Cena with sixteen German suplexes in an elongated squash which stunned and divided the fandom.

Those who heralded the outcome did so not because it made a lick of storyline sense, but because it completely subverted the super-heroic Cena character, with whom they had grown weary of years and years prior. But those who could not believe that WWE had sacrificed their sacred cash cow, at the altar of the passionless part-time Lesnar, posed a probing question: What if it were Daniel Bryan on the receiving end of the one-sided massacre?

The controversy soon dissipated, however. WWE retconned a match which otherwise could have had industry-shaking ramifications by resetting the chess board at the next month's Night Of Champions event.
