2. Steve Austin vs. The Rock (WrestleMania X-Seven)
In retrospect, Steve Austin regrets the finish to his match against The Rock at WrestleMania X-Seven. The event was taking place in his home state of Texas, but that didn't stop the former anti-hero from turning heel and aligning himself with Vince McMahon. It was a huge moment, but the heel run wouldn't work out in the long run. Listening to Austin now, he'll say that he wishes he'd called an audible. Instead of shaking hands with "the devil himself" (according to Jim Ross on commentary), Steve laments that he should have nailed him with a Stone Cold Stunner. That would have kept him babyface, but the drama was in high gear regardless. The Rock was powerless when McMahon aided Austin by hammering him with a steel chair. Handing his former nemesis the weapon, Vince then watched with glee as 'Stone Cold' bashed Rocky time and time again. The heel turn felt like a sea change in the WWF. Whilst it wouldn't work, nobody can deny that the finish to 'Mania X-Seven was dramatic.
