You only had to look at Steve Williams' massive, rock-looking head to infer that he was as hard as f*ck, which was fairly ideal for a wrestling promoter. They only had to stick some trunks on the guy and tell you he was hard as f*ck. And Williams was hard as f*ck: he was an explosive, athletic hoss who radiated legitimacy with his pounding football-inspired arsenal and deadly, super-sudden suplex game. Williams could go and go for as long as a promoter needed him to in long, great matches that proved him a superb craftsman beyond his raw intensity and power-based game. WWE didn't stick some trunks on the guy and tell you he was hard as f*ck: the worked wrestling promotion stuck him in shorts and requested he proved it in shoot contests that he lost, because he needed to be protected at that advanced stage in his career. Aura destroyed following an incredibly avoidable scene that was more the opposite of pro wrestling than Yoshihiko the doll ever was, that was his career f*cked.
