10 Most Emotional Wrestling Matches
10. CM Punk vs. John Cena (MITB 2011)
...like the threat of rioting if fans don't get a result which leaves them euphoric.
At Money In The Bank 2011, that was exactly what was on the cards. People in Chicago were there to see one result and one result only: a CM Punk win over villain of the piece John Cena. If they didn't get it, then they were going to tear the place apart, and possibly Cena for having the audacity to upend their hero on such a passion-fuelled night.
WWE chose the smart option by putting Punk over clean as a whistle. Had they booked any other outcome, there may have been hell to pay, and everyone knew it. There was a mob-like atmosphere to the air that night, and it was potentially hazardous if the hometown boy didn't win the WWE Title.
Every offensive move from Punk was met with wild cheers, and every strike from Cena was greeted like the dubious babyface was punching a puppy. This was Chicago's night, not WWE's, and so the pop that ushered in Punk's victory was one of the biggest in company history.
