10 Most Emotional Wrestling Matches
9. Val Venis & Nicole Bass v Jeff Jarrett & Debra (Over The Edge 1999)
As Double J was making his way to the ring at Over The Edge '99, Jim Ross uttered this famous line: "Unfortunately, this show must go on."
This is because Owen Hart had just fallen to his death.
This match, in hindsight, is one of the most emotional in the history of wrestling when you can actually grasp what had happened.
Hart, playing The Blue Blazer, was all set to drop in from the rafters in super hero-like fashion to face The Godfather for the Intercontinental Championship. Unfortunately for everyone concerned, the harness he was given wasn't strong enough and Owen plummeted to his death.
After a brief pause, Kevin Kelly conducted an interview with both JJ and his Valet, Debra. Both were visibly shaken by what had transpired and did remarkably well to hold it all together. At this point, Owen was in an ambulance on his way to hospital, no one knew if he would survive or not.
Imagine that, being told you have to go out and work when a colleague, and good friend in Jarrett and Venis' case, could well be dead. It's universally thought that Vince McMahon should have stopped the show, and with good reason.

The pair went out and gave an outstanding performance considering the circumstances. Owen's blood was still visible in the corner where he died, it really is hard hitting stuff in hindsight.
Venis and Bass picked up a win that paled into insignificance.
